The heart is one of the most important organs of the body and is the main engine of the drainage of blood. Therefore, maintainingheart health is important. The efforts that you can do is to avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, eating a balanced diet and regular exercise.
One way that can potentially help heart health is the consumption of algae. Scientists have identified that the algae (seaweed)have great potential as a food that is heart healthy.
Article published in the Journal of Agricultural and FoodChemistry of the States, the algae can compete with dairy products as sources of nutrients called “bioactive peptides”.
Researchers made byDr. Mary Hayes, Ciaran Fitzgerald,Eimear Gallagher, Deniz Tasdemir, and the Food Research Centre, Teagasc, Ireland has conducted a study on the use ofalgae as a source of protein that has properties such asbioactive peptides.
“Bioactive peptides” which are found in dairy products, not onlyprovides nutrients, but also has the same effect with the drug and prevent some diseases.
Algae is also known as an alternative source of macro-algaefood rich in nutrients. Communities in East Asia for centuries and other cultures eat seaweed.
Review of 100 studies concluded that seaweed contains a protein that functions as boiactive peptides in dairy products.Bioactive peptides are useful for lowering blood pressure and almost the same as ACE inhibitors that are popular.
“Marcoalga various species and the environment in which they are located and the ease of cultivation make algae is relatively unexplored as new bioactive compounds. It should be moreefforts to exploit its potential to be used and marketed food products”, said the researchers in a report.
