Strong Bones with Tomato

This is a good way to strengthen bones so we can avoid the risk of osteoporosis, tomato juice, that is, take every day.

Lycopene, the antioxidant content of tomato fruit, experts believe that as the cause of the bones to grow stronger. Formerly known lycopene beneficial in preventing prostate cancer in men and also prevent heart disease.

In a study conducted in Canada, researchers asked 60 people or post-menopausal women age 50-60 years to stop the consumption of tomato products on the menu every day for a month.

It appears that increased levels of N-telopeptide in the blood, which is a chemical that the body is released into the blood when there is a broken bone.

Then, during four months of study respondents were given tomato juice containing 15 mg of lycopene per day, and the capsule plus 35 mg of lycopene. The control group respondents who received a placebo capsule.

The result is N-telopeptide levels in women who drank tomato juice or lycopene capsules were drastically reduced. But the benefits were not obtained by women who consumed a placebo capsule.

As a precaution, experts recommend drinking two glasses of tomato juice everyday. The results were published in the journal Osteoporosis International.
